If you look at the readme for release 2.0 of DD3D it says you can't annotate the elevation of symbols. I made this block to annotate elevations, just insert it at and end or midpoint of a symbol (so the text is at the same elevation as the symbol) and it will give you the correct elevation. Feel free to edit the block, just don't erase either mtext, and if you edit the attribute don't delete the field (grey background text). This would work for steel, or anything else you want to get the elevation of. The text isn't smart enough to attach itself to the object, it just annotates the elevation it is at, so yes if you move it after it is placed it will update.
