View Full Version : Liner line weight
Is anyone else having problems controlling Liner line weight? The company I work for puts the Liner on a separate layer with a thin line weight. It appears the Liner line weight is being controlled by the layer the duct is on, which causes the lines to bleed together when plotted. Under "Options" there is a setting for line type, but nothing (that I could find) regarding line weight.
The only solution we have for now is to lighten our line weight for the duct, so the duct and liner don't bleed together. Is there another option?
What version of DD3D are you using OCD? If you have one of the newer versions that only run in 2007 or 2008 AutoCAD products you can use automatic layering. In the DD3D Data Editor click TOOLS>>COMPANY SETTINGS and check the box for automatic layering. In Auto Layering you can set the line color, weight, and type. You can also change the defaults per system and pressure class for each project you set up in Data Editor. When you draw the duct in cad it places liner, double wall turning vanes, annotations, etc onto their own layers per system.
I personally don't like to use auto layering when drawing, I like to create my own layers for different systems. So I only turn it on after I've drawn all the duct for a drawing and use the ResetAutolayeringForEntities command to pick just the lined or double wall duct. I then move all the duct and annotations back to the layers I want them on and purge the unused layers; the liner and inner double wall stay on the new layers and you can edit them as you normally would in AutoCAD. I know this is a rather inelegant and slightly time consuming workaround, but it’s the only way to control line settings for things like liner.
Oh, if you do have a newer version of DD3D you'll notice that the line type setting in "OPTIONS" for liner doesn’t actually work anymore. No matter what you set it to it always draws liner as a continuous line, unless you use auto layering.
I am using 2008v1.
I am aware of automatic layering, but it doesn't work the way we want it to work. I am like you, I put my ductwork on separate systems. What we do is draw the ductwork on the liner layer and then change the duct over to the duct layer. The liner remains on the liner layer while the duct (outer lines) goes to the duct layer.
Under "Options", I do not have the problem you are describing. I have mine set to "ByLayer", so the line type will match my layer settings. I have my liner as "DASH" and when I draw ductwork on liner layer it draws it dashed.
Automatic Layering doesn't solve the LINER LINE WEIGHT problem for me. I have tried using it, but it seems the liner line weight is ALWAYS driven by the layer the ductwork is on. I can draw a line on the Liner layer and it comes out EXACTLY the way I want it to, but DD3D lined duct won't.
I see what you are saying about the line weight now OCD. I never actually tried to change the line weight of liner before. I use layer manager to change type and color of the liner layer and that works, so I had just assumed that weight would also work.
For me with auto layering off liner always becomes a continuous line, even though mine is set for hidden2. With auto layering on liner uses whatever line type I set in auto layering.
I think QP has the liner line weight set to "by block", so it follow the duct layer. I guess they forgot to add line weight settings with the line type settings, ooops.
