There is another thread concerning backups of the sheetmetal program. Essentially the entire program (all bids, tables, everything) must be backed up. It's quite time consuming and ***bersome. The piping program allows you to just back up individual jobs, so it is quicker.
If you are using a network, I would make sure that the network drive is backed up every night to prevent too much data loss.
If you are using a standalone computer, consider getting another hard drive and software that will 'mirror' the data from one hard drive to the other, or there is some newer hard drive technology that is basically two hard drives in one. Either way, you get the security of having the backup with no extra work on your part. Regular hard drives are cheap, you can get a decent size drive for $50 and the mirroring software for another $50. The newer technology drives are pricier. Either way it's cheaper than loosing one or several days worth of takeoff.

ABSM has an automated backup feature. Go to the server window, click Backup > Scheduled backup options. On the window that opens you can schedule a location and time for automated backups. Most people pic a place on thier network and have it done each evening.
